The mission of Sol Food Mobile Farm starts with advocating for local foods and renewable energy sources. To address such large topics we offer both expos and workshops from our retro-fitted school bus classroom. We work with children and young adults from all backgrounds and experience levels to support local agriculture projects of all types. Our workshops and expos cover a variety of topics, including but not limited to: planting from seed, seed saving, basic garden building, permaculture design, sustainable energy systems (WVO, solar, electric, grey water collection) and urban farming on a large scale.
Our philosophy is that a well-rounded education includes hands-on experience, and that time spent digging, planting and harvesting vegetables alongside peers will help connect children with their community and the origins of their food. To put this philosophy into practice we assist school gardens, community farms and farmers’ market events. All of our programs are free of charge and work to promote a strong local, agriculture system through education, environmental sustainability and community development.
